Michael Keith Huggins was born on May 21, 1940, in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, to Winston and Maude Una Huggins (née Wiles). He attended school in Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, Guyana, and St. Thomas More in Georgetown, Guyana. From a young age, Michael's family taught him how to love others and God. He grew up in a home where his father was a Methodist, and his mother belonged to the Episcopal (Anglican) Church. He frequently talked about sitting with his paternal grandfather, James Isaac Huggins, and reading different stories from the Bible. He often remembered his maternal grandfather and mentor, Samuel Christopher Wiles, who took him to church all day on Sundays and taught him proper penmanship. His relationship with his family continued to shaped his relationship with the Lord.
In 1968, Michael and his wife, Dawn Moore, moved to New York with their daughters, Sharon and Michelle, from Georgetown, Guyana, South America. Their son, Dwayne, was born two years later. At the end of their marriage union in 1978, Michael moved to Seattle. In 1980, Michael moved to San Jose where he met his wife, Florence Marie Anderson. They married in 1981 and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in 1983. Michael and Florence Marie moved to Cincinnati, OH, in 1984. Their first son, Michael David, was born in 1988. Their youngest son, Matthew Aaron, was born in 1990.
In 1990, he retired from a long career at IBM and briefly opened a furniture store called Huggins and Associates from 1990-92. In December 1991, Michael became a member of New Life Temple Church and worked as the Business Administrator until 2006. He taught many classes at New Life Temple Church including Solid Rock III: Roots of Character and a number of courses at the New Life Temple Church Bible College. In 2008, Michael helped launch Global Outreach ("GO") Church, where he served as an elder, minister, and teacher. He also formerly served as the Vice-Chairman of the Urban League in Cincinnati; Chairman of the Madisonville YMCA; and a Member of the Board of Cincinnati YMCA.
Michael leaves his wife of 35 years, Florence Marie Huggins (née Anderson); four children, Dr. Sharon Gail Huggins-Felix, Dr. Michelle Allison Huggins, Dwayne Christopher Huggins (Khalilah), and Michael David Huggins; grandchildren, Adrian Felix, Arielle Huggins, Samara Huggins, Christopher Huggins, and Sean Huggins; three sisters, Eileen Evelyn McKen of England (and her children, Caroline and David), June Patsy Michael of Atlanta (and her children, Debbie, Emmanuel, Jackie, Stephen, and Anthony Jr.), and Sandra Ann Huggins of Barbados; sisters-in-law, Zenolia Gibson and Lola Hearn (Terry); and brothers-in-law, Herbert Anderson (Dianne), Lawrence Anderson, Hollis Anderson (Carolyn), and Smiley Anderson (Yolanda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Maude Huggins; his younger brother, Christopher Winston Huggins; his youngest son, Matthew Aaron Huggins; and his brother-in-law, John McKen. He also leaves an abundance of nephews, nieces, cousins, special friends, and students.
Michael was very proud of his family. He was known for his big smile, hearty laugh, and incredible stories. He also loved to teach and give away books. But above all, he loved God, and he always sought to share that love with everyone around him. He will be dearly missed.
"LIVE READY. If you have to get ready when the opportunity comes your way it will be too late. Opportunity doesn't wait, not even while you pray. Be filled with the Spirit; that is be soaked with the Spirit; be so soaked that every thread in the fabric of your life will have received the requisite rue of the Spirit. Then when you are misused and squeezed to the wall, all that will ooze out of you will be the nature of Christ." - Smith Wigglesworth
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works. And that my soul knows very well. - Psalms 139: 13-14
