As a community champion and change agent, Gwen served on many committees and was honored as The Enquirer 2006 Women of the Year. Among her other awards and honors were the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois Excalibur Award, YWCA Career Women of Achievement, Radio One Women Empowerment Award, Ladies of Distinction 2007 Honoree, 2010 Profile in Courage and Dada Rafiki Award.
In Rockford, IL, Gwen was a dedicated member to Bethel Baptist Church assisting with the building of the Family Life Center. Gwen continued in her faith in Cincinnati at Corinthian Baptist Church where she served as a trustee.
Gwen shared her later years as a member of the Cincinnati chapter of The Drifters, Inc. where she enjoyed fellowship with other like-minded women and served as the Vice President.
Gwen leaves to cherish her memory: her loving sons, Jock (Willetta) Robinson and Shawn Robinson; grandson, JaRon Robinson; brother, Melvin Foote; sisters, Elaine Mitchell and Maria Johnson; and a host of nieces and nephews and many special friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, James Jr. and Jeffrey Foote.
Her friends and family will remember her way with words and her laughter. Especially the smile she carried and her beautiful style.
