Obituary

Olla Mae Burpo Weatherspoon was welcomed into a divine and peaceful rest Tuesday morning April 16, 2024, in her home of love. She was 92 years of age. Granny, as she was affectionately called, was the third of five children born to the late Mr. Emmanuel Burpo Jr. and Mary Etta. She began her earthly journey July 4,1931. She grew up in a God-fearing family and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was preceded in death by her siblings Robert Hunter, George Burpo, and Jeroline Turner. Her sister Wilma Jean remains to honor her memory.

Olla Mae attended and graduated from Central High School in Wise County, Va. in 1948. She met, married and loved until his death, Mr. Johnny D Weatherspoon of Pardee, Virginia. Together they raised one child, Valeria Weatherspoon Riley. Upon moving to Cincinnati, she joined the fellowship of Calvary Baptist Church, of which the late Reverend E Kelly was pastor. In 1957 with a group of other believers she became a charter member of Inspirational Baptist Church organized under the pastorship of the late Reverend Charles E Armstrong. This fellowship relationship was maintained by her until her time of transition. Olla Mae’s involvements during the course of her life included active membership in the following ministries: The Willing Workers, Missionary Society, and Heroes of Faith.

Olla was employed by the University Hospital of Cincinnati as a nurse aide for 28 years. She retired in 1991. Olla Mae enjoyed traveling with her travel club, Les Chic Roadrunners. She also enjoyed shopping and attending family functions. She especially enjoyed attending the family reunions in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas and California.

Olla leaves to carry on her legacy of love and family to her devoted daughter, Valeria Riley and (Paul) of Morningview, Ky. Two wonderful grandchildren, granddaughter Alicia Riley Dillard (Donte), grandson Kevin Riley and her great grandsons Anthony Dillard and Abram Dillard, all of Cincinnati, OH. Also her sister Wilma Jean Burpo of Spartanburg, SC and sister-in-law Ida Mae Hunter of Cincinnati, OH. Special thanks to her niece, Portia Mitchell of Cincinnati, OH, for the great caregiving during her failing health. She also leaves a nephew, Kerry Hunter of Cincinnati, OH. Olla Mae will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
